Born out of a mutual appreciation for arcade games, John Hughes movies, and 80s soundtracks, MidnightMantics - the Nashville based synth–pop duo of writer/vocalist Adam McCants and producer/multi-instrumentalist Stacy Hogan - aim to make music that Ferris Bueller himself might call "so choice”, and with their debut Mixtape Vol.1 they have done just that.
"Stacy and I met years ago through the Nashville music scene and would occasionally get together to write or jam for fun. On one of these hangs, after realizing that we both had a fascination for the 80s, we fell very easily into a sound that we both thought was pretty special and merited some further exploration,” explains Adam.
Wasting no time, the album was created in “7 of the most, effortless writing sessions either of us have been apart of,” says McCants. “We really tried to make something unique that could possibly be mistaken for an album from 1985, but that would also resonate with a modern day audience."
The lead track and first single, “City of Dreamers” with its soaring melody and infectious chorus, feels like you’ve gone back to the 80s for the second (or first!) time. While “Say Goodbye” and “Mixtape,” include clever nods to the pop culture and sound from the bygone era that this duo draws so honestly from, they also embody the ambient vibes of chillwave.
"This album is definitely that of a soundtrack to a coming of age romantic-comedy. It’s all about the rollercoaster of love and relationships, but also life, the changes we go through and hope that the unattainable will one day become attainable. These experiences are timeless, spanning across all decades and fads… long before boomboxes and rubik’s cubes… and well after the Nerds decided to get their revenge.”
Mixtape Vol. 1, is set to drop September 4, 2015. Life moves pretty fast, don't miss this
